GET YOUR LIONS CLUB INVOLVED

Lions Clubs from around Australia give generously of their time through volunteers and funding for Australian Lions Hearing Dogs operations. We could not continue providing our amazing services without Lions Clubs and their members. We are so grateful to the Clubs that already contribute to this wonderful Lions initiative.

Deafness and hard of hearing isolates people in communities all around Australia and continues to increase, particularly as we age. Isolation and communication withdrawal is shown to impact on cognitive function, making ours a vital cause.

We understand that Lions Clubs across Australia and internationally meet to discuss how funds are distributed to a variety of worthy causes. Australian Lions Hearing Dogs would appreciate your consideration to make regular distributions to our organisation. To discuss how to make a donation as a Club, please contact ALHD on (08) 8388 7836 or email info@lionshearingdogs.com.au. To make a donation as an individual, please donate online.

LIONS' MEMBERS GIVING SUPPORT

When Australian Lions Hearing Dogs approached Hallet Cove Lions Club to become involved by supporting the placement of Hearing Assistance Dog, Bo with her new owner Mary Provis, the club jumped at the chance. DG Tom Kimber C2 said that Hallet Cove Club was looking for more service projects in the community, this was something new and would be a great opportunity to promote the helping aspect of Lions.

Brian and Tina, dealing with some health issues of their own, were finding their capacity for involvement in more physical Lions projects had diminished, being part of the support team for Mary and Bo though is “fantastic, for us, something we can do” said Tina.

Lucy & Abby

Having seen how the dogs were trained and raising funds for the training of the dogs, we had never seen a Hearing Dog at work and the difference it could make to someone’s life, we were more than happy to take on the supporting Lucy in a hands on role.

So for 12 weeks, three times a week the Ipswich Lions members visited Lucy’s recipient Abby and Lucy to test her on the sounds she was taught. Those sounds being Doorbell/knock, smoke alarm, mobile phone and oven timer.

Having seen the difference that a Hearing Dog can make to the life of a person that has a hearing impairment is hard to explain in words. The delight you see on the recipients’ face is all that one could ask for.” – Lions Paul & Marilyn, Ipswich Lions
