AWARDS & FELLOWSHIPS
The Helen Keller Fellowship
“Blindness cuts us off from things, but deafness cuts us off from people” is a moving quote often attributed to the famous 20th-century activist and educator Helen Keller, who achieved a remarkable career championing the Deaf and blind.
Helen Keller Fellowship Plaques are available for an order to recognise a deserving person who has made an outstanding contribution to society.
For a donation of $1,000, the plaque is a great way to formally acknowledge such work, all the while contributing some much-needed funds to ALHD in our journey to train more dogs for people who deaf or hard of hearing.
Applying for a plaque is simple. Download and complete the form, make your donation, and we will send you a personalised plaque within 6 weeks. You can also call us and place an order over the phone.
The plaque is an A4 sized brass plate on a bevelled-edge timber backing with wall mountings. We recommend the plaque is hung inside or undercover outside. The images are laser etched onto the plaque with words of your choice. Other logos may be added and each plaque is numbered. You can find all Lions Australia award recipients, including Helen Keller Fellowships here.
When you apply for a Helen Keller Fellowship, please ensure we have the correct spelling and wording (particularly with telephone orders). Plaques will be dispatched by mail so please allow time for delivery.
The Bill Holmes Award
Australian Lions Hearing Dogs presents an annual award to recognise those who have greatly contributed to the organisation over a number of years.
Created in 2016 as a tribute to retiring CEO and past National Chairman, PCC Bill Holmes OAM, whose service and commitment to the organisation over his twenty years of involvement has cemented Australian Lions Hearing Dogs as the world class service dog training organisation that it is today.
Bill was presented with the inaugural award upon his retirement. Long-serving ALHD staff member, Linda Harvey, received an award in recognition of her 20 years of employment with Australian Lions Hearing Dogs as a Trainer. Linda is an integral part of the organisation and has been involved in training every dog to leave the Training Centre since 1996.
The Bill Holmes Award is only presented by the organisation, and cannot be distributed by any Lions Clubs or other individuals using donation credits.
